Today, on International Day of the Girl Child, we celebrate the power, potential and promise of every girl – no matter where she is born, what resources she has, or what challenges she faces.
At Make A Mark Australia, we believe education is not just about learning – it is about opportunity, confidence, leadership and hope. When girls are educated, they become decision-makers, role models, innovators and change-makers. And when girls thrive, entire communities grow stronger.
Just recently, we saw this truth beautifully in action.
Students from Sacred Heart College Adelaide travelled to the Solomon Islands to spend time at one of our project partner schools, Amoana Christian Academy in Honiara. The visit was filled with classroom learning, cultural exchange, friendship and countless moments of mutual respect and joy.
One of the visiting students, Sally, shared her reflection:
“Our visit to Amoana Christian Academy was truly incredible. There is a wonderful sense of faith and family among the students and staff, and they made our group feel very welcome. We are very grateful to have spent time in this wonderful place.”
These kinds of connections matter. For the girls at Amoana, seeing young women from another country travel to learn with them reinforces a powerful message: your voice matters, your education matters, and your future matters.
For the Sacred Heart students, spending time with girls who are determined to learn is a reminder that resilience, faith and community are powerful forms of strength.
International Day of the Girl Child reminds us that around the world, too many girls still face barriers to education. Yet we also know that when a girl is supported to stay in school, everything changes:
– her health improves
– her economic opportunities expand
– her confidence grows
– her leadership flourishes, and
– her community benefits
This is why Make A Mark Australia partners with schools like Amoana Christian Academy and creates opportunities for Australian students to engage in meaningful, respectful connection. Our goal is simple: empower girls to learn, lead and dream big.
