Following the success of earlier projects at Mercy, such as the building of brand new classrooms, MAMA has agreed to support a project to fund a new school hall on the grounds of Mercy School.
The school has grown significantly since it was established in 2004. From modest beginnings, and with a rapidly growing local demand for schooling opportunities to support the Burns Creek settlement, the school slowly grew to six classrooms to accommodate 680 students in 2014. It was at that time that Mercy first approached MAMA and over the following years, MAMA funded the construction of more classrooms for early childhood, primary and secondary students. The MAMA team was blown away by the energy, passion and dedication of the local community when they visited during construction in 2016.
In November 2022, MAMA considered a project proposal received from Mercy School to support the construction of a new Mercy School Hall and the installation of solar power. The Hall will help deliver educational outcomes for a school population which has now grown to approximately 1,000 students. It is a true partnership, with MAMA funding the cost of materials and Mercy School covering labour costs using skilled local tradespeople.

It’s an exciting project and one that will make a huge difference for the students and teachers at Mercy School, as well as members of the Burns Creek community.
