There is something magical about a story.
A story can transport us to another country, another century, or even another world. It can help us understand someone else’s experience, spark our imagination, make us laugh, or give us hope. Stories have the power to connect us across cultures, generations and communities.
That is why we are delighted to celebrate Children’s Book Week 2026, with this year’s inspiring theme ‘Symphony of Stories’. The theme, chosen by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA), invites children, families, schools and communities to explore the rich and diverse world of storytelling through books.
The theme imagines stories coming together like instruments in an orchestra – each unique, yet contributing to something bigger and more beautiful when combined.
At MAMA, we see every day how education changes lives. We also know that reading is at the heart of that journey.
Books do much more than teach literacy. They build confidence, curiosity and empathy. They introduce children to new ideas and help them make sense of the world around them. Through stories, children discover who they are, who they can become, and how they can better understand others.
This year’s theme resonates strongly with our mission. Across the schools and communities we support, from the Pacific to Africa and beyond, every child has a story. Every classroom is filled with different experiences, perspectives, hopes and dreams. When children are given access to education and books, those stories begin to flourish.
As we celebrate Book Week 2026, we encourage everyone to take time to share a story. Read a book with a child. Visit your local library. Ask a young person about their favourite book. Better still, encourage them to write their own story.
Because every child deserves the opportunity not only to read great stories, but to create one of their own.
At MAMA, we believe education empowers children to shape their futures. This Book Week, we celebrate the power of stories to inspire that journey.
