As we approach the Christmas season, a short message to thank you for ‘making your mark’ in support of Make A Mark Australia. We simply couldn’t have completed ten projects across seven different countries without you. And because of you, we’ve empowered over 35,000 kids in the last five years!
Some of the incredible highlights this year have included:
- the opening of the new classrooms at the Mercy School in Honiara;
- the new MAMA Early Child Care Centre in Kabul; and
- our visit to Nuku’alofa for the official opening of the refurbished MAMA Ofa Tui Amanaki Centre for children and young adults with a disability in Tonga.
- Opening of the classrooms at Mercy School, Honiara.
- Opening of the MAMA Early Childhood Centre, Kabul.
- Opening of the MAMA OTA Centre for children with a disability, Nuku’alofa.
As we engage with partners and spend time with children, our fundamental belief in the criticality of early education is reaffirmed. When we hold the hand of a young child who has broken the stigma associated with people with a disability and discuss their hopes and aspirations, we hear in their voices the importance of education, opportunity and empowerment. With improved facilities and access to educational resources, we see a glimpse of their dreams through the sparkle in their eyes. It’s enlightening.
So, from the 35,000 children you have helped empower from Zambia, Afghanistan, Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, Solomon Islands and Tonga – thank you. Their lives have changed and their future brightened through your support of MAMA.
On behalf of our Patron, Dame Quentin Bryce; Pacific Patron, Her Majesty The Queen of Tonga; the Management Committee; and most importantly, the children that you have empowered by making your mark – we wish you a very merry Christmas and look forward to your ongoing support in 2016.
Merry Christmas!
