In 2014, MAMA was introduced to Leigh Southwell – an incredibly passionate and compassionate Australian who was living in the Solomon Islands and keen to ‘make her mark’ in support of the Mercy School in the Burns Creek settlement of Honiara.

We were immediately inspired by Leigh’s vision to help the children in the settlement by providing better access to educational resources and infrastructure. Since then, MAMA has funded several new classrooms and a playground at Mercy School, and Leigh has joined MAMA as a Director.

In this mini documentary produced by The Canberra Tales, Leigh provides her insights on the challenges, successes and incredible relationships developed during what has been a remarkable journey with the teachers and students at Mercy School.
