International Volunteer Day – 5 December

International Volunteer Day (IVD) is celebrated each year on 5 December and was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985. IVD provides volunteer organisations and individual volunteers with the opportunity to raise the public awareness of their contributions to economic and social development at local, national and international levels.

In Australia, over six million Australians volunteer their time in a range of activities and organisations as diverse as the volunteers themselves.

IWD is the perfect time to say thank you to those that have helped MAMA ‘make a mark’ by empowering children in need.

The 2013 theme, “Young. Global. Active.” resonates strongly with MAMA’s grassroots approach. This year, we pay special tribute to the contribution of youth volunteers in global peace and sustainable human development, celebrating that young people can act as agents of change in their communities.
